In the former French concession (1860-1946), in the current district 和平 [Heping]. The international bridge (Wanguo Bridge), finished in 1927 was first known as the French Bridge, and later renamed Chiang Kai-shek Bridge. The bridge was again renamed in 1949: the Liberation Bridge, Jiefang Bridge (source: Historical Photographs of China project, University of Bristol)
